Mendhi Style ACEOs

I enjoy mendhi, I think that it is lovely. I want to learn to do it on skin. I ordered Henna powder and while I wait for it to be ready (I didn't realize that it took about 24 hours to prepare) I decided to practice on some little canvas papers that I bought for the purpose of creating ACEOs. I wanted to get used to the feel of the applicator, so I used one - just for the purpose of experimenting - with acrylic paint in it. These are the designs that I created.

This one is salam - Arabic for peace.

This one is peace and love in arabic.

This is just a funky design that I wanted to do, just for fun and practice.

This one is my favorite, and it means love in Arabic.

I will be selling them as ACEOs in my store, although so far I only have one listed. I think that it would be nice to sell them as a set.

I will soon be experimenting on my own hand, a close friend's hand and maybe my mom. I'll have pictures - if it doesn't come out awful.

Baby Jayne's

What a cute shop Baby Jayne's is! Owner of this shop describes herself and her shop:

"I come from a long line of quilters, seamstresses and crafters. I sewed my first full size quilt at age 8. I love being creative and making new things. I can't wait to teach my daughter someday and continue the tradition!
Our style combines the latest ultra-soft high end fabrics, with the quality and craftsmanship of traditional quilting."This quilt is made of cloth and thread, to place upon your little bed, It's not an heirloom- just to keep, but to lay upon as you count sheep. Or perhaps the floor's the perfect place. For a doll and teddy picnic space. This quilt can be anything you can dream-From superman's cape to the robe of a queen. Pretend it's a raft adrift at sea,or just cuddle up when you watch T.V. A well-loved blanket can hold a special place in a child's life! We hope you'll choose a Baby Jayne's blanket when you make that choice. Everything is durable, washable, and custom made. I make each product as if I'm making it for my own child."

My daughter didn't lose her first teeth until sometime last year - she was six. Then they all started coming out at once. She could've used this:

Emin Taos

Emin Taos is a lovely shop on etsy with very unique jewelry. In her own words Emily describes her shop and herself:
(EM)ily IN TAOS....the lovely high mountainous desert of Northen New Mexico. It's truly enchanting and the perfect inspiration for creating artful, meaningful, and I daresay fashionable jewelry.
I am a wife and mother of one, living on the mesa and am inspired by the beauty of the rich landscape here. The wide open skies and endless vistas evoke the artist within all of us 'Taosenos'. Combining my love of design and romance, I have created the line ‘EminTaos’. I have a 18 year back-ground in floral and event production design (an ex-zookeeper as well) and have decided to put my skills to good use in the world of jewelry. I pair semi-precious stones, raw drilled rocks, chandelier and swarovski crystals with silver, vermeil, and gold-fill to create timeless and romantic pieces sure to put a smile on the face of the wearer and the beholder. Elegant, colorful and fun, these quality pieces are versatile, affordable, and very often one of a kind. My motto is “because I deserve it!”, and every piece is made with that in mind. So go ahead, you deserve it!

I love the colors in this one:

I would wear this one everyday. I love the simplicity of it:

This one took my breath away. It is so lovely, a real traffic stopper:

Ozark Scents

Ozark Scents is a wonderful shop on etsy. I love the feel of this shop, so earthy.
Her soy blend candles are made of soy, beeswax & food grade paraffin waxes. They are pretty strong and can scent your entire home. The soy candles are made with 100% soy wax. These are highly scented and can scent large rooms. All of the products are made in a smoke & pet Free home.

At this time of year it just feels so right for a house to feel homey and smell like pumpkin and spices. I've never had pumpkin soufle before, but it sounds so good.

Lemon is one of those scents that experts say will make you feel more awake. Good thing to have in the morning shower.

Can't make up your mind which wonderful scent to choose - try a sampler.

Raspberry - mmmm. These are too pretty to use in the shower.

Who is she? She is The Little Ballerina that's who! In her own words she describes herself:

"I am a stay at home mom of 3 [a 3yr old, 2yr old, and newborn.] I put 100% into everything I do and make. I have recently added many new products to my shoppe, be sure to check them all out. I've had a lot of fun making these and hope to continue to do so for quite awhile."

I don't know how she finds time, I have three children too, but they are 12, 7 and 3. It is obvious that she puts 100% into her shop - everything in is is adorable. These are three of my favorites.

I have a thing for owls, and I think this would be adorable on my little guy.

Halloween is my FAVORITE holiday. These are too cute:

Turkey day is coming. How perfect is this hair clip!

Belly Dancing

Yesterday I talked to my sister in law, and she asked me where to take belly dancing lessons. I was reminded of how much I LOVE belly dancing. I love the music, I love the costumes and the drama, I love it all.

I took belly dance lessons for a while, but then life got caught up with me :( I am thinking of taking lessons again, or at least buying a video or something. It's just fun, and it is something to do just for me, which is something that we all need.

My favorite kind of belly dance is tribal belly dance. It is difficult to describe, but it is very earthy and sensuous. This is Zoe Jakes dancing to 'Intertwine' by Beats Antique. She is an amazing dancer, very unique.

In her own words, the owner of Bagel Creations describes herself:

'I'm a Philly girl transplanted to northern California. I've really grown to love living in our small town. I'm a stay at home mom with two wonderful boys. They inspire me everyday!I've always been creative & crafty. Right now I love sewing. I'm mostly self-taught and a bit of a perfectionist. If I don't love an item myself, you won't find it here. I do tend to get involved in other craft projects, too. You never know what might find its way into my shop! Thanks for stopping by!I've had a few inquiries about my shop name... I acquired my nickname "Bagel" from my friend's husband. After repeated attempts at trying to pronounce my maiden name, I finally told him it rhymes with bagel... since then I've become "Bagel". I've had a few people wonder how I can be comfortable with being associated with a starchy carbohydrate. To me it's endearing and only makes me think of my good friends. Besides, I love bagels!'

I like the following from her shop:
I would love to carry this around on halloween, although I would need several.

I've always loved wristlets, I've never owned one.

Ah - fall, my favorite time of year.

These are my favorite colors, however when I went back to her shop to add the link - it was gone. It must have sold. It is linked with another one of my favorite cozies.

In Love with my New Make-up

Ok, so here's the thing ... I have an issue with the make up that I normally buy at the drug store. It doesn't look bad when I put it on, but about an hour of wear - and my eyes are all red and itchy. I don't know if I have an allergy or what, but I always end up having to wash my face shortly after putting it on.
But, I like to look pretty, it just makes me feel good. I don't splurge on myself very often, but I have an event coming up and I wanted something beautiful. So, when I checked out Glittersniffer Cosmetics on etsy, I wanted everything. I've heard of mineral make up, but I didn't own any. I got some pinks and purples and my traditional browns. It came in, and I had to try it out right away.
It looked great, but better than that my eyes weren't itchy at all! The colors were much more intense than I thought they would be, I love the shimmer all over. The thing that impressed me the most was what it felt like when it was on, it didn't feel like I was wearing make up at all. It went on smooth and I wore it all day and it looked the same at the end of the night as it did when I put it on in the morning.
The greatness of this make up can't be overstated. I won't buy my eyeshadow from a drugstore ever again, I refuse to wear make up that makes me uncomfortable ever again.

On my eyes in the first three pictures Sammy Jo (the intense purple and my favorite) pink pistol and panties (a color that is difficult to describe, but reminds me of the changing colors of a soap bubble).

I love earthy browns and I wear them a lot. These browns were so rich and still had that glimmer. In the following pictures are silk sheets, hot chocolate (it does look like hot chocolate) and 8 mile.

I also bought solid scents from Glittersniffer and I highly recommend Birthday Cake - it smells EXACTLY like a pink frosted cake, it made me happy just smelling it.

Family Trip to Fort Wetheral

As our send off to summer, our family went to Fort Wetheral for a picnic and some exploring. I have to tell you, it is obvious to me why there are so many stories about this place being haunted, it is CREEPY. One of the legends about this place is that there are black hell dogs with red eyes that patrol the grounds. If you see one, then within three days you will die. I look for one everytime we go (hee hee) but I've never seen one.

Clayton, the big guy on the left is a huge war history buff. He was telling us all about the weapons the soldiers used and what they ate, where they slept and on and on. He really enjoyed himself.
The kids and I went for a walk to go 'fairy hunting'. The little ones really like that game. We pretend that there are bad guys after us and we have to use our magic powers to defeat them. We have to track fairies using 'signs'. It's a lot of fun.

Wesley's favorite part of the entire trip was a big hill that he could roll down over and over. Beanie showed him how to do it at first and then he was giggling so hard the whole way down.
If you are in RI in the summer I highly reccommend Fort Wetheral for a picnic and some fairy hunting.

Elementals

I am planning a series of five elemental beings (fire, water, earth, air and spirit). This is obviously fire. I am naming her Adena, which means fire. I wanted to call this painting "She's Hot," but my husband talked me out of it. He said that he thinks that it makes the painting sound silly.

The second will be a man of the earth named Enki, meaning 'lord of the earth.' I am going to have my hubby pose with his hand on the ground and I will paint roots coming out of it.
The third will be Haizea, meaning 'wind'. I think that I will do a super close up of the side of my daughter's face with her hand out, blowing leaves and flowers off of it.
The fourth will be Naida, meaning 'water nymph' and that is exactly what she will be. A mermaid on a rock in the moonlight, or maybe underwater holding a glowing orb. I am not sure.
The fifth will be spirit, and I will name it Zo, which means 'spiritual leader'. I think that this one will be an androgynous human figure in the star pose, like DaVinci's painting. Only, it will be multi colored and very sparky, like fireworks.
The paintings will then be sold as a set of five. I am planning on having this done withing two weeks.

Grace Hester Designs

Very cute stuff here! Grace Hester Designs is a shop that sells wonderful prints for all purposes. There is something for everyone.
Grace is originally from Singapore, now living in the US. She enjoys designing and creating products for the busy moms who appreciate modern and personalized products. Most of her designs are silhouette- or typography-based, she gravitates toward simple and fuss-free aesthetics. She has been an Etsy shopper since 2008, Etsy seller since late-May 2009. She has 2 young daughters, a one-year-old, and a four-year-old who are often “featured” in her banners. They are the inspiration for all of the items in the store – and also the distraction most of the time. But that’s the life she loves. Her prints are printed on high-gloss and resin-coated photographic paper that allows the colors to show beautifully. The prints are smudge- and water-resistant and of archival-quality so they are perfect for keepsake prints meant to be treasured through the years. For all other artwork, she tries as much as possible to use archival-quality materials and will note if she was not able to do so in the listing.

My Latest Work ... A Little out of Character

I have never done a piece like this one before. It is a little cartoonish, which is very unlike me. Perhaps it is Mercury Retrograde that is messing with my mind. I don't know, but I won't say that I don't like it. I actually like this piece quite a bit because it's different.

This is another whimsical moment I had. It is a resin photo pendant. I love the little trees and the adorable little birdie.

Then I did yet another swirly tree. I know, yes too many swirly trees. BUT - this one has a redish background, so I did change it up. Besides, my other three swirly tree paintings sold in the last few weeks, so I had to replace them. This is on a fairly large canvas. It is around 18" x 24".

Nature Photographer

In one of my lives (an assignment I did for The Artist's Way: http://dailypaintjournal.blogspot.com/2009/08/my-five-lives.html) I was a nature photographer for the National Geographic. Now, these are certainly not that quality, but they are photos of nature.
The dog and I went for a nice quiet walk and I found some interesting things to photograph.
These vines wrapped around everything in their path, telephone wires, trees and this fence that stretches the entire length of the path, which I've been told is over 80 miles long.

There were flowers and bees everywhere. These daisies were in full bloom and they were everywhere. It was tempting to pick them, but I didn't.

While we were walking, the dog found a path that went off the main path and into a field. This is some grass that was in the field. There was a huge patch of this long brown grass right in the middle of the field, and then there was a clearing of short green grass.

The clouds formed this whispy pattern. It looked like hair. It was a very beautiful day.
